History of Bras for a Cause
History of Bras for a Cause
In the summer of 2003, incoming Soroptimist International of Glendale President Kathy Lefkovits brought an outrageous idea to our club. She suggested that as a fundraiser, we ask members of the community to decorate bras! We would then hold an event where the bras would be displayed and auctioned off. The members were a little hesitant at first, but once attorney Joan Allan said, “I could do a ‘Scales of Justice’ bra,” the ideas started flowing, and the Club agreed to give it a try.
Well here we are, nine years later, still going strong with Bras for a Cause – which just keeps getting better every year!
Funds raised each year benefit Breast Cancer Services at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, Glendale Memorial Hospital, and Verdugo Hills Hospital, as well as other charities that improve the lives of women and girls. To learn more about how the funds are distributed, see the Annual Service Grants page.
