Special Projects Fund
In 1993, Soroptimist International of Glendale (SIG), in partnership with Southern California Presbyterian Homes (now called be.group) and the City of Glendale, spearheaded the building of a low-income housing project for seniors called the Gardens. After the project was completed and paid for, SIG had some remaining funds, which became the Special Projects Fund. Soroptimist International of Glendale has given the following grants from this limited fund in recent years.
$5,000 to the YWCA of Glendale for the HER project in 2007
$25,000 to Soroptimist International of the Americas for their STOP Trafficking Awareness Campaign in 2007
$15,000 to the City of Glendale’s Commission on the Status of Women for their “Rosie Goes to Wall Street” Camp (now called Camp Rosie) to empower high school girls in 2007
$10,000 to Glendale Adventist Medical Center for the Children’s Play Area in the new Emergency Room. Given in memory of member Marlene Roth in 2007
$1,000 to Soroptimist International of the Americas for their Haiti Disaster Relief Fund in 2010
$5,000 to produce the educational play Body & Sold about human trafficking in 2010
$3,000 to Soroptimist International of the Americas for their Live Your Dream Campaign in 2010
$2,500 to the Soroptimist Gardens to refurbish the community room in 2009
$1.000 to Soroptimist International Project SIerra in 2010
$1,500 to San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity for a kitchen in the new Geneva Project in 2010
$2,500 to Soroptimist International of the Americas for their Live Your Dream Campaign in 2010
