How does Soroptimist International of Glendale Serve the Community?

 

 

Each year, Soroptimist International of Glendale raises funds, which we then distribute to various charities in Glendale that improve the lives of women, girls, and others in need.  This year, we raised and gave away $30,000 to the twenty charities and projects listed below.  We raise the funds through various means, and our major fundraiser is Bras for a Cause.

 

Women’s Opportunity Award

        Each year, Soroptimist International of Glendale gives a monetary award to a female head-of-household who is returning to school.  To apply for this award, contact Liz Mirzaian at mirzaiep@ah.org  Would you like to learn more about this year’s winner?

 

 Violet Richardson Award

        Each year, Soroptimist International of Glendale gives a financial award to a high school girl who makes a commitment to volunteering, as well as an award to the charity with which she volunteers.  To apply for this award, contact .  To apply for this award, contact Liz Mirzaian at mirzaiep@ah.org  Would you like to learn more about this year’s winner?

  

Hands on Projects 

 

  • Once a month, members cook and serve dinner to the residents of PATH Achieve Glendale, a local homeless transitional housing program.
  • Members participate in the annual Breast Cancer Walk at the Rose Bowl.
  • Members put domestic violence hotline cards in public restrooms.

 

Previous Service Projects

 

  • During the 1990s, our club spearheaded the development of The Gardens, a 75-unit apartment complex for low-income seniors.
  • During the 1940s, Soroptimist International of Glendale sold war bonds and funded one of the first iron lung machines in the United States.
